McDonalds $1.00 Cheeseburger vs Wendy's $0.99 Quarter-Pounder

After enjoying a Wendy's Quarter-Pounder for $0.99 plus tax, I decided it
only fair to give McDonalds a chance.

So, I plucked down $1.00 plus tax for a Dollar Special Double Cheeseburger.
Here's my admittedly subjective take on the comparison:

The McDs 1/4 pounder is worth the dollar. But, the Wendy's was worth more
than the 99 cents! Both contained about the same amount of meat. McDs had
two thin burgers and Wendy's one thick one. Both were somewhat fatty, but
maybe the edge goes to Wendy's. The real difference was in the dressing.
Wendy's had a real slice of tomato and a leaf of lettice and a slice of
pickle. The McDs had real pickle but instead of vegies, it had a tomato
sauce-like dressing. Both buns were okay and I didn't take much notice to
the quality difference.

I think a better way to compare is to sit at a table with both products
available at the very same time. Then, one could take a bite of one and
then a bite from the other. I think under those conditions, a very fair
comparison could be made.

In the meantime, I recommend both Companies do some comparison work and
compete with each other until the undisputed champion of the World can be
declared!

What's the point? Taste is entirely subjective. I think most people eat
fast food for the convenience of it, not so much because they like one
place more than another. None of the hamburgers McDonalds or Wendy's
sells can hold a candle to the hamburgers I make at home or a good diner
hamburger.

Hardees wins. Except their big burgers are more expensive, but they
are excellent....

If Hardees wins then why are their restaurants disappearing all over the
country?
Just curious

I don't know but I sure hope Wendy's doesn't go down a similar path. I've
gotten WAY too used to their menu to be suddenly deprived of my daily
Wendy's fix.

As far as I know, Wendy's is doing quite well financially.

I don't think you need to worry there. Shawn's right Wendy's is doing just
fine. It is Burger King that slowly seems to be heading in the direction of
Hardees, maybe since they bought most of the Hardees stores they are jinxed?

I never thought I'd have anything more positive to say about Hardee's
than at least they're not Rally's/Checkers, but their new burgers are
rather good. No fast food burger can be really good because of having
to be overcooked for liability reasons (and some stupid state regs).

They are the most poorly run company. Their marketing is atrocious.
It's like they purposely aim for the <95 I.Q. crowd.

The only fast food I know of that even hints at quality is Lion's
Choice, and you DO pay for the quality.

I've always preferred Wendy's to McDonald's. The meat just plain tastes
better....I like the buns better and there's no damn excuse for not
putting a tomato on a burger! LOL! Seriously, Wendy's wins hands down
with me. Even like their fries better. And their chicken sandwiches are
MUCH better! Or, maybe I'm just spoiled on my local Wendy's store. They
have had the same shift manager at the times when I eat there for well
over 5 years now. The food at any given fast food joint will only be as
good as the people who work there make it. I could go out of my area and
eat at another Wendy's and come out with an entirely different opinion.

I don't care for McDonald's regular meat anyway. I won't touch any
sandwich that's made with it. If I can't have the quarter meat, I don't
want it at all. The B&T was good from what I remember but I always made
my own with extra lettuce, tomato and mayo.

Thank you for that, I have been trying since I started frequenting this NG
to get people to understand that one bad restaurant or one bad experience
does not make a bad company. If you ate at the Wendy's where I live for
instance I can almost guarantee you would change your opinion but then go to
one 30 miles away and they have great food. It's all about standards set by
the management team and havng crew that want to do their jobs well.

hmmm, because of how thin the patty is? Because as far as the meat itself
goes they are virtually the same.

I miss the Big & Tasty but we truly couldn't make it now since it pretty
much required the use of Styrofoam packaging (hot side hot and cold side
cold) and we limit the use of that to our breakfast platters simply because
there isn't a good alternative to that yet. Somehow cardboard and syrup do
not mix very well.
